Whether you are "returning to work"
or you are a "new hire" in the
NW Region Ambulance sector, you will be required to report
to the NW Region Base Hospital Program to obtain your ALS
Certification.
Upon completion of the ambulance service hiring process or
upon notification to your employer to return to work, your
employer will forward a request for certification to the NW
Region Base Hospital. This will initiate the process for you
to obtain your ALS certification with the NW Region Base Hospital
which will allow you to commence your employment in the NW
Region.
| The request for certification is
in your name, submitted by your employer
on your behalf. It will require your
cooperation.
|
In order to initiate the Request for Certification, your
employer will be required to complete and submit specific
human resource-type documents to the Base Hospital. In order
to do so in a timely manner, you will be require to provide
your employer with very specific documentation pertaining
to your previous employment history and paramedic credentials
in a timely manner. For example, current CPR certificate and
course outlines from your College. Once the required information
is received by your employer they will complete and submit
the Human Resources Inventory form to the Base Hospital to
initiate the request for certification on your behalf. Other
supporting documents that may be required are the ALS Certification
Referral form and the Paramedic Leave or Separation form.
Once the Human Resources Inventory (HRI) form and other supporting
documents have been submitted they will be reviewed by the
Secretary of Operations for completeness.
Your certification process will advance when your
documentation is complete.
The Clinical Educator and Program Medical Director will determine
your individual certification needs. The Clinical Educator
along with your employer will then coordinate the schedule
for any education and testing sessions that may be required
of you. Your individual certification needs are based on several
components such as (not limited to), length of inactivity
as a working paramedic; previous level of certification; certification
in/out of the Ontario zone; previous decertification, deactivation,
or deficiencies noted, and the requirements for maintenance
of certification.
| The certification process is an
individual process based on many
items. The requirements for certification are directed
by the Program Medical Director upon review of your
individual needs.
