Vice President, Medical and Academic Affairs Announced

Click to listen to this page using ReadPlease Dr Gordon PorterRon Saddington, President and CEO and Ron Nelson, Chair of the Board of Directors are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gordon Porter to the role of Vice-President, Medical and Academic Affairs.

 

In his new role as Vice President, Dr. Porter will also continue as Chief of Staff. Among his key responsibilities, Dr. Porter will be involved with issues related to Medical Staff Leadership, Quality Improvement, assuring that medical standards are met, that quality medical care is delivered, that professional medical practice is advanced, and that physicians participate in an interdisciplinary and collaborative fashion.

 

On behalf of the Board, Ron Nelson expressed that, “Dr. Porter is leading our medical staff at a time of tremendous challenges. Not only is recruitment of specialists difficult, but the expansion of services, such as Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Paediatrics, and Mental Health present special challenges. All this is happening at a time when Northern Ontario School of Medicine students are coming to TBRHSC for training. It creates special dynamics.”

 

In making the announcement, Ron Saddington stated that, “Dr. Porter is a valued leader at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. His role is significant and it is comprehensive. We are proud to observe his tireless efforts to demonstrate a willingness to direct the activities of everyone toward patient care. His thorough understanding of our strategic plan to achieve a national and international reputation as a Health Sciences Centre makes us believe that he will be a key participant in everything we accomplish at Thunder Bay Regional”.

 

Dr. Porter is an Orthopaedic Surgeon. He is an outstanding physician leader with extensive experience in academic centres in both Canada and the United States. He assumes his new responsibilities immediately.
