Tamarack House receives its first patients.

February 7, 2005

Click to listen to this page using ReadPleaseDr. Scott Sellick and the Supportive Care team, is very pleased to announce that Tamarack House will be receiving its first regional cancer patients on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. Tamarack House is the patient accommodation lodge for regional cancer patients and their families having to travel to Thunder Bay for treatment. Patients come from as far away as Hearst and White River to the east, and as far west as the Manitoba border. In addition, we routinely receive patients from many northern, remote, and fly-in communities.

This new lodge replaces Amethyst House, our thirty year old lodge located at the Port Arthur Cancer Centre site, with twice the square footage, a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week schedule, a brilliant view, and quick access for treatment for patients, all located on the top (5th) floor of the new Medical Centre, next door to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

A grand opening celebration for Tamarack House is being planned for later this spring.
