Your
doctor has scheduled you for insertion of a Peritoneal Catheter
at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Our hospital has a day service, Peritoneal Dialysis. This
service allows you to be admitted and discharged from the
hospital on the same day you have your peritoneal catheter
implanted.
The catheter insertion will take place in the Renal Service
Procedure Room.
The Peritoneal Dialysis Unit is open 7 days a week from 7:30
a.m. until 11:00 p.m.
In preparation for your surgery, it is very important that
you come to Peritoneal Dialysis the day before your surgical
date. At this time a nurse will: complete a nursing assessment,
give you important instructions, and arrange any lab tests
that might be needed. This visit takes about 45 minutes.
IF YOU DO NOT KEEP THIS APPOINTMENT YOUR SURGERY COULD BE
CANCELLED.
