  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit has over 1000 walkers that joined SHAKE, CHATTER'N STROLL during the six years of operation. The only piece of equipment is a good pair of walking/running shoes. Call Maureen Twigg at 625-5923 for more information.

  • A National Walking Program continues to operate at a monthly basis from November to April. Anyone 50+ years can get in the routine with or without a partner. This program is held in the bubble at Confederation College. Fees vary from a one month membership to a full six month (November to April) membership. The number to inquire is 475-6398.

  • Although there is no regulated walking fitness program at either adult centre that we know of, there is a small exercise space and limited equipment at each site. Also, the 55 Plus Centre does provide housebound seniors an opportunity to get out and exercise once a week in the The Walk-a-Bit Program. Contact telephone numbers are listed below:

    55 Plus Centre: 684-3066
    Herb Carroll Centre: 625-2316

In addition to exercise, the 55 Plus Centre services include:

  • Blood Pressure Screening
  • Diabetic Health Counselling
  • Hearing Screening
  • Foot Care Clinics on a monthly basis.
