Since medication is an important part of the management of kidney disease, it is important that you know as much as possible about your medications.
- Provide any information and answer any questions you may
have about your medications.
- Identify and help resolve any drug related problems.
- Monitor the effectiveness of your medications.
- Make suggestions to your physician regarding your medications.
- Learn as much as you can about your medicines.
- Let the pharmacist know if you are suffering side-effects.
- NOT to change anything about your medicines unless your renal doctor agrees.
- Only take medicines prescribed (or approved) by your renal doctor (includes supplements, non-prescription items, herbal remedies etc.)
- Keep an adequate supply of medicines so you don't run out.
- Have all medications filled at one Pharmacy (if possible).
- Call the renal pharmacist if there are any concerns, questions or problems surrounding your medications.
Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre is not an outpatient pharmacy and does not normally fill medications for use outside of the hospital. We do however, provide some medications in certain circumstances. (no drug plan, drug not available at Community Pharmacy).
Call the switchboard (684-6000) and ask for you call to be directed to the Renal Department. Remember, you have an excellent group of professionals, each specialized in one area of kidney disease. This "team" approach is designed to offer you the best possible service and care.
