 The
role of the Occupational Health and Safety Department is to
promote and maintain health, prevent injury and illness and
to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Occupational
Health and Safety services include the following:
- Health promotion
- Illness and injury prevention, primary care and first aid
- Immunization and communicable disease surveillance
- Health assessments
- Rehabilitation and back care education
- Co-ordination of modified work programs
- Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims management
- Employee Assistance Program
- WHMIS training
- Health and Safety legislation requirements and compliance
- Education in safe work practices
- Workplace inspections, incident investigation, hazardous situations
- Industrial hygiene and designated substance control programs
- Respirator training
